Biological materials pose a difficult challenge in developing their material characteristics and model them accurately. In 2008, Dr. Anriette van der Westhuizen submitted her Phd thesis looking at the strain rate dependant properties and modelling of bovine cortical bone. This provided a frame work for continued investigation into the material characteristic of bovine bone. For his MSc, Graeme is looking to expand on the previous work to include different range of strain rates with a view to further development of the material model for bovine bones.
