Claire matriculated from Kimberley Girls’ High School in 2012, obtaining the second highest grade average in the Northern Cape for the 2012 NSC Examinations. She went on to study a BSc(Eng) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town in 2013 and graduated with First Class Honours in 2016 at the top of her class. Claire’s undergraduate final year project involved determining, both analytically and computationally, the effective properties of regular honeycombs with the aim of extending the approach to trabecular bone research. Claire received the award for Best Final Year Project amongst the Mechanical Engineering cohort.
Claire is currently pursuing her PhD under the supervision of Mr Trevor Cloete and Prof. Gerald Nurick after upgrading from a Master’s degree in August 2018. Her research is focused on determining the effective properties of micro-CT scanned trabecular bone samples using Finite Element Analysis.
