Personal Details

Richard Matriculated from Rondebosch Boys' High school in 2004 with Academic and Service Distinction colours, also being awarded the first place in the country for Metalwork in the Matric Examinations. In 2005 Richard started his university career at the University of Cape Town and in 2008 graduated with a B.Sc (Mech)Eng with Honours. In 2009 he started his MSc under the supervision of Mr. Trevor Cloete and graduated in 2010 with a thesis entitled "Implementation of Viscoelastic Hopkinson bars".

Richard is now currently registered for his PhD in BISRU

Current Research

With landmine and IED being a major threat worldwide, it has become important to investigate structural response to buried charges to efficiently develop protection systems.

The project involves investigating the effect of buried charges on structural response varying different parameters such as depth of burial, stand off distance, soil compaction, type of soil, moisture content and mass of explosive
